not quite Potty Barn…

i figured i needed to do some kind of Thanksgiving post, given that we are only 2 days away, so here it is!

these pictures are from last year’s celebration. i’m kinda laughing at myself and the photography from last year, and its making me really fall in love all over again with my newer prime lens! well anyway…i digress.

thankfully, i am not hosting again this year. Although i really do enjoy planning and prepping for these kinds of things, there is just too much going on around here to pull all that together, so i will happily be enjoying the feast at someone else’s house! but i will be cooking some of my fave recipes tomorrow, so i’ll try my very best to share those with you!

you know by now how we roll around here…everything was on the cheap and homemade. (i can only drool over and dream about my table one day looking like those on the cover of Pottery Barn or Martha Stewart!! but for now, $.99 tissue balls, flowers picked from the yard, and plastic yard chairs borrowed from my in-laws church are the best we could do!)

so here’s to a real Homemade Thanksgiving!

every place setting had an different icebreaker question that each guest answered during dinner. it definitely brought lots of laughter and insight, as well as a few (good) tears!!
here’s a link to our list of icebreaker questions in case you are interested! alot of them were originally given to me to ask our kids around the dinner table, but you can weed through them for adults too. (this is my first time linking to a document, so let me know if it works!)
this was the kids’ table. they loved drawing on the tablecloth with their crayons while they drank out of “real” glasses and ate on “real” plates!
as for this year, we’ll be enjoying this week with our little pilgrims:
this one had a school Thanksgiving performance that was just adorable! here he is peeking out from behind the scenes right before the performance began, just to make sure he had my full attention!
and i’ll also be doing lots of cooking with the cutest little naked chef on the planet!
really trying to make it back tomorrow with some recipes, but i’m not promising anything!!

hoping you enjoy your holiday!

and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, may i just tell you how unbelievably grateful i am for those of you who faithfully read this little blog?? i know you are out there, and i’m just continually blown away by you and your encouragement to me!! so thanks for all the support and comments!

the dreaded day

thanks for all the sweet encouragement from the last post. glad that you enjoyed the randomness of life and really glad that i’ve still got some readers! :)

i absolutely cannot believe that the holidays are right around the corner…literally. this time next week, we’ll be getting our Christmas tree…is that crazy, or is it just me???

but around this time of year, one of the most dreaded days comes upon my family…the infamous Christmas Card Photo Shoot….(que that music…..dunnnn dunnnn dunnnnnnn!!!)

well…its now over, and as i spend my free time browsing through etsy for the perfect card, i thought i’d leave you with the reality of any shoot we ever attempt. this is pretty much how it goes down:

—the hubs looking dazed and pretty much miserable, trying really hard to just be quiet and survive the moment
—me chasing a child, wiping dirt off their white clothes, and begging them to stop touching things so they won’t be dirty before we even take the first shot
—trying to position everyone just so, especially so my small children won’t see the other children playing on the really fun playground that’s just a few steps away
—wiping away tears while my children cry over the fact that i’m not a “fun mom” because i won’t let them play on the really fun playground like all the other kids
—getting upset children who have just thrown temper tantrums over the fact that they aren’t on the playground to unfold their arms, quit pouting, stand or sit still, and smile
—trying to make those same children laugh but without moving to avoid those cheezy, fake kind of smiles that they are SO darn good at
—all while trying our darn hardest to act quickly so our good lighting doesn’t set too fast on us!

(hmmm…that all sounds pretty crazy when i stop and actually think about it!)

after bribes of Mickey D’s AND cash in the heat of the moment…wow….pretty sure that wouldn’t go down in any parenting handbook as “healthy parenting techniques”, we did get an acceptable one (with only one cheezy smile…i consider that a success!) i’ll let you wait to see it until it actually goes in the mail.

i have come to the realization that it sure is hard for me to be on the receiving end of the camera lens!!!
i have lots of stuff to write about, just gotta find the time to do it! so come back!!

also….i just might have some yummy Thanksgiving recipes to share…if i get my act together, which these days, i’m not totally counting on!

either way, i will check back in with you! :) happy weekend!

What…

warning: lots of randomness ahead that you may not give a rip about! :)

preparing for a school Thanksgiving Feast for 18 children and their families has got me worked into a tizzy the last few days. (it shouldn’t have, but it has!)

along with the fact that my car broke down and is presently in the shop, making it just a little more difficult yesterday to finish all my plans for the above mentioned feast. (again…well aware that MANY people do not have cars…i’m spoiled/blessed to even have one…in fact…did you know that if you own a car, you are richer than 84% of the people in the world?? crazy!)

and also coupled with the fact that there may be some big changes ahead for us….and i’m distracted with thoughts of all that….but good changes…and NO…these changes DO NOT include a new addition…just in case you were wondering!! but more on that at another time!

so i think those reasons give me an excuse to have a writer’s block today. cause there’s not much more stuff that can fit into this little pea sized head of mine (that’s still mush anyway), and trying to come up with something fun to craft or cook or write about just isn’t going to happen. so…i’m just going to show you a bunch of random stuff, and hope that you’ll come back again someday!! :)

so…here goes:

WHAT…..

is in my cup:
is in my pantry (i thought there was supposed to be a shortage, so i bought a lot…but now i’m realizing that i have TOO much…so any pumpkin recipes you have that you can send my way, i’d love!! and i’ll give you full credit on the blog!):
makes my competitive nature really come out:

is on my nails, thanks to my sis May (OPI Manicurist of Seville):
is on my agenda:
is on my bedside table (i think you can tell alot about a person from their bedside table!):
is on my heart:
(click the link below to read more)

is on my eyes:

is keeping me on my toes, constantly:
I am wearing today (not that you really care…but i needed some material to post!):
i am presently working on:
is on my Costco list:

I want to make in the next few weeks:

is in my belly…my new fave treat (they taste just like the real thing):
is in the bottom drawer of my freezer (cause all the shelves above it are filled with ice cream and frozen cookies!!)
is on my To-Do list:
is on my wish list:
is on my really really wish list:

is presently in my wildest dreams:
and what is in my very near future (which is why boots are on my wish list):

alright friends…i’m sure that was more than you cared to know!

i promise that i’ll be back one of these days with something of worth to post about!
