Beach Livin’

okay…so i’m super lame. i haven’t come back to give you that smores recipe from the last post. but i will. i promise! but i have about 5 minutes to post this, before i need to spruce up for my date night, so that’ll have to wait!

instead, i figured that i’d tell you about our day, beach livin’ style! today is one of those days, weather wise, that you dream about. one that we’ve been waiting for since we moved in this joint!

our day starts when we wake up just in time to watch the sunrise:

we went out early this morning to check out the local garage sales, bound and determined to come home with a new bike for the boy. a few hours and $5.00 later, we were successful!
now that jake and i have bikes, with a seat for the Bug, we’ve got to get Canaan riding so that we can enjoy fam bike rides. so we practiced:
then we looked for sharks teeth with our friends jim and jordan:
we found alot today. and our goal is to fill this jar by the end of the summer:
we’ve also found lots of other creatures that wash up into the tide pools. we are learning alot about marine life:
the bug helped me prepare for a little photo shoot…
for this precious, PRECIOUS little one. i’m warning you…if you look at this next picture, it will make you really REALLY want a little babe:
isn’t he absolutely edible?? i’ll share more pics of him later.

this was the moon last night…it was incredible:
i will be back with that recipe…someday :) but for now, i’m off to Chipotle, the world’s best restaurant, in my humble opinion, and then to the movies.

have a good night!

the boy, the bug, bikes, and the Best Valentine ever!

My littlest Valentines:

hope that you all felt very loved on Monday!

i sure did!
i mean…how could i not, when i’ve got these little ones around?

the Bug insisted on dressing just like me on Valentine’s Day…pink dresses and navy cardigans. there will be a day when this picture embarrasses her, but for now, she was quite happy to look just like momma. wish i could pull off those polka dotted tights, though!
i got a knock on my door on Monday evening. when i opened it up, i found these beauties staring back at me:
my Best Valentine of all surprised me with them.

we wasted no time and got them out on the beach as fast as our little feet could carry us:
Jake’s bike has this cool little seat on the front with little stirrups that is just the perfect size for Bella:
we rode off into the sunset, quite literally…
before coming inside for dinner.
the kiddos enjoyed heart pizzas and sparkling grape juice in fancy glasses:
to which they took full advantage of “cheers-ing” each other:
jake made me dinner for Valentine’s Day as a tribute to the very first night that we hung out just the two of us, when he made me homemade pizza.

he started with an appetizer, and i thought he did a great job at assembing this platter of one of my all time faves…brie.
however, we very quickly realized that it was not in fact brie, but camembert cheese. not the same, let me tell you!

but my monogrammed pizza was fantastic!
(can you see the JKL? pretty clever of my Valentine!)

we had a great, relaxing evening at home, and are looking forward to a date night this weekend too!

gotta get the Bug off to ballet class.
check back soon so i can tell you all about these:
XOXO,

Heartbreakers

i’m posting this tonight in hopes that it gives you enough time to make these treats if you want before the big LOVE day!!

i have no idea what their real name should be, but i’m gonna call them…
HEARTBREAKERS:

i saw the idea and recipe here, and just adapted to make them heart shaped.

start with just a couple ingredients:
1 box Red Velvet Cake mix
1 stick of butter
2 eggs

now…i have to pause and show you this next tool. i’ve wanted one for about 3 years, have looked at them about 10 times in Walmart, and finally just spent the $5 for one. it was totally worth it!

this springloaded mini cookie scoop does WONDERS in getting cookies a uniform size (or for filling mini muffin tins, etc)
so using your new tool :) or a spoon, which will work just fine…

while cookies are cooling, make the filling by creaming together:

(note…i tried filling the cookies first, and then cutting the whole thing together. didn’t work as well! so cut first, then fill.)

scrape off excess filling from edges with an offset spatula or the dull edge of a knife.

now step back and admire your cute little cookie!
serve these Heartbreakers up to your little heartbreakers, and they’ll be sure to be your Valentine forever!
hope you’re having a “sweet” weekend,
