Celebrating Four

we had a full day of birthday celebration on wednesday! here are the highlights:

jake and i wanted to do something special to celebrate Bella’s big day, so we decided to take her to get her ears pierced!! she was thrilled!

she picked out some little pearls…
and the sweet ladies at the jewelers went to work!
i had told Bella that it would pinch just for a minute….
she was just so excited! but i think the pinch surprised her anyway. these following pictures kinda break my heart:
but she recovered quickly, and soon fell in love with her new look!
we were all very happy with our decision!
we then took her to her favorite yogurt shop:
where she entertained us with a little birthday dance:
we picked up Bubba from school, and she was so excited to show off her new earrings.
i think she likes them!
she went to her ballet class, where we shared cookies as she was serenaded by her fellow ballerinas:
then the fam went to a special dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. once again, the crazies provided us with some lovely dinner entertainment. this time it was a duet with s&p shaker microphones:
Bella had her fair share of treats for her b-day, and was brought a very special mini ice cream sundae by the waitstaff:
before coming home to her much requested strawberry cupcakes.
i tried this recipe for the first time, making a few changes. in my opinion, not the best, but i had a few people disagree with me! the recipe is here if you are interested. (i used cake flour instead of all purpose, and i cooked down the puree over low heat until thickened to intensify the flavors. i also doubled the amount of puree i used.)
the Big Four Year Old:
it was a fun day, full of celebration! we’ll continue tomorrow with her Bug Party, and i’ll be sure to come back with all the details!!

on a side note, Canaan Boy was in his first play at school yesterday. it was adorable…and i hope i get to experience many many more plays like it! there’s nothing quite like a bunch of sweet kiddos voices, unashamedly belting out songs about the jungle!
of course, what’s a performance without a little treat afterwards? (pretty sure my kids have been on a sugar overload the past few days!)
and…you must’ve guessed, but March Madness is in full swing around these parts. this was our set up last night as we hosted a bunch of friends…big screen, IPad, and IPhone. glad my friends have cool technology toys so that we could enjoy 3 games at once!
GO GATORS!!!

can’t wait to show you Bug Party details, so check back!

could it be true?

how does this happen?
how do they go from this:

to this???

the Bug turns 4 tomorrow (actually today, considering its 1 am)…

FOUR! could it be true???

we have a big day planned for her. i will be toting the camera along, so i’ll be sure to share with you her birthday surprise!

her door is all decorated for the morning:
i debated for a while whether or not to do a party for her this year. i caved. we are having one on saturday. but only for our fam. i wanted to keep it simple. however, you know me…i had to have a theme to work off of. i’ll give you a hint…it has to do with her nickname.

here’s a sneek peek as i’m gathering supplies:
i’ll be sure to share the details later.

for now, i better be heading to bed. my mind is not thinking straight at this time of night/morning! and i’ve had a request for a birthday breakfast of bacon and blueberry pancakes, so i have to rise a bit early!

happy birthday to my sweet bug, who is more precious of a daughter than i could’ve ever asked for! i love you more than i could ever express!!

chuckle…

these silly crazies always keep me laughing!

Bella and Lanie doll dress alike now for ballet class. i am given very strict instructions as to what i am supposed to do with Lanie while she stays with me while the Bug is in class. first and foremost is to make sure her headband stays on at all times!! i’ve had to calm many a freak-out moment when that headband happens to pop off Little Lanie’s small head.
and to give you a little chuckle, yesterday this one:
was telling me all about the different drills that they have at school. since my kids are slightly terrified of tsunamis now that we are living on the beach, the conversations these days tend to often go in that direction…crazy weather, natural disasters, what to do in a tornado, etc. (as a side note…my heart breaks for the things happening overseas today, and i am not quite sure yet how i am going to deal with the reality of that with my kids.)

anyway…as he was describing the different drills they have at school, he mentioned that they practice Lockdown too. when i asked what a Lockdown meant, he told me that they would have a lockdown if there was danger in the area.

so naturally, i ask, slightly concerned about what he’s been told might classify as danger,
“well, Canaan, what kind of danger do you mean?”

his response,
“well you know, mom…danger in the area…like a lion!”

i got a good long chuckle out of that one!

come back next week, and i’ll tell you a little bit about these. you know me and trifles…i just can’t get enough!

peace out,

ps: my dear friend, anne, did great in surgery and is recovering well. thanks for praying. please keep beckoning the Healer on her behalf! :)
