this is life

wow. thanks for all the responses, emails, questions, re-posts on your blogs, about the Beach Bash party. i had planned to post some of the images and graphics i used for the party in case some of you wanted to use them as printables. that is coming at some point.

i also planned to post about this very exciting project that i’m supposed to be working on this coming week in Haiti involving teaching some precious amputee women how to sew these IPhone/IPod Cases:
yes, i said this week in Haiti. this trip has totally snuck up on me, and we are supposed to be leaving very soon. however, instead of last minute preparations, this is what we have been taking care of today:
our sweet boy has been having some possible heart issues. we are investigating and trying to figure out just what is going on. he is being monitored, and we go back in tomorrow for some more test results. so far, he has checked out perfectly. he is fine, we are fine…but obviously seeking out just what we are supposed to do, and why he is having the symptoms he is having.

anyway…if you’ve emailed or left a comment with a question about the party, or if you’ve called me and i haven’t called you back, i will get back to you, but it might be after our trip, if God still sends us on our way!

pray for us if you think about it. for answers and clarity, for supernatural peace, for wisdom on what to do, and for however else the Spirit might lead you to pray.

this is real life peeps. things don’t always go as planned, or how i would like them to go. i have no control. and i don’t like it. that’s just being honest.

feeling tired and beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed, but trusting that Abba Father knows just exactly what He is doing.

a dear, wise friend reminded me today that when God sent Mary on a ride on a donkey across the desert at 9+ months pregnant, He was well aware of the fact that she was on the verge of labor. His timing might seem mysterious, but its still perfect. clinging to that tonight, and trusting that He will show us the way.

Beach Bash

ready to see details of Canaan’s beach bash??

board shorts banner:

my older bro designed this cool board shorts image for me to use on the water bottle labels:

what’s a beach bash without water balloons? 150, to be exact…
cupcakes:
honestly, these sharks were the hardest cupcakes i’ve ever attempted. my plan was to make 20 of them, but after being resorted to tears cause the rest of them were falling apart, i ended up with 3. mark my words…i will NEVER attempt them again!! in a last minute game time decision, we created shark fins out of frosted ginger snaps, and life preservers with a shark bite taken out.

i found this idea for these flip flop cookies here:

Fish Food was made up of whale shaped cheese crackers, pretzel sticks, and marshmallows:
the kiddos jumped right into the ocean upon arrival, and we made sure to have lots of watchful adult eyes on hand to keep guard over all our little minnows:
canaan had a blast with all his friends from school, church, and his baseball team all in one place:

we gathered the fishes out of the water to play a few games.

first on the list:
Sharks and Minnows:

Bella wasn’t gonna let those boys get by her!
next up:
A Water Balloon Toss:

then all the kids used the leftover water balloons to get the B-day Boy!

and my favorite activity of the day:
The Shark Tooth Hunt
we set up flags along the beach, and drew a circle around each flag. within each circle, there were at least 2 shark’s teeth for the kids to find:
can you spot the shark’s tooth???

they got to take home their teeth in a special bag:
showing off their finds:
we ended our games and enjoyed a quick snack:
before moving onto cupcakes and Happy Birthday!

the birthday boy was tuckered out after his big week of turning 7, but this Beach Bash was the perfect way to end the celebrations!
(to print all the printables used in this party, see here!!)

i’m coming back to fill you in on some happenings around here (and beyond) in the next few weeks.

ps: totally switching gears…but i thought i’d leave you with a thought for today….i sat up late last night watching all the news coverage on Osama bin Laden’s death. i have to admit…i went to bed with mixed emotions. i didn’t quite know whether to feel sad, happy, relieved, angry…..

but i woke up this morning with this thought:

The true reality is that i am no different that Osama bin Laden. we are both big fat sinners in need of a big time Rescuer. we live in a harsh, broken, fallen world. our hearts are full of sin. we all desperately need a Redeemer. and that man’s death shines light on the reality of my own need for Jesus. because ultimately, me and bin Laden have the same root sin…we both want to be our own God, build our own little kingdoms that revolve around us. our choices and the consequences might look different on the outside, but our hearts are the same. thank God that He’s abundantly given me, once again, a reminder of my desperate need.

a B-day to remember

the birthday celebrations are officially over, and i think we’re all beat! we had full days, with lots of family and friends to celebrate with us. here are some of the details of Canaan Boy’s big day:

we brought in cupcakes to share with C-Boy’s class the day before his birthday:

he woke up the next morning to his requested breakfast of pancakes with strawberry syrup and a jelly donut:
after breakfast, we rode our bikes a couple miles down to our favorite beach club, met up with canaan’s great grandparents, and spent the morning in the pool:
we took a break to enjoy a lunch on the patio, where Canaan got to order Sprite as a special birthday treat. (he’s been asking to drink Sprite on his birthday for months now! how could we say no to that face???)
we rested some that afternoon, and then met up with our family at a fun restaurant:
while we waited for our food, we took some pictures (i’ve got half the mind to photoshop those bags out from under my eyes, but then i’d be afraid that without them, ya’ll wouldn’t recognize me!!):
we also did some dancing to the great 80’s/90’s music that was playing:
and played around with finger moustaches, an activity that provided us with lots of entertainment:

because finger moustaches can also serve a double purpose as a unibrow!
after we finished our seafood dinner (the Boy’s fave):
we headed home to cap off the celebration with his requested strawberry cheesecake: (i used Paula Deen’s recipe, you can find it here. it is definitely worth making again!)
the birthday boy then opened up presents and read special messages:
which included a creative IPhone e-card from his aunt and uncle:
we capped off all the birthday celebrations yesterday with a beach party for some of Canaan’s buddies. i’ll give you the full scoop later on:
we loved celebrating our boy, and i’ll be sure to be back with more photos of the party.
