trick::or::treat

Halloween was very festive around these parts the last few days. our pumpkin friends sat out by our front door, while some other pumpkins graced us with their presence inside:

the bug donned some pretty Halloween-ish ribbons:
and each crazy got a surprise orange-themed Halloween lunch for school:

(in case you are wondering….that nasty looking stuff is yogurt with Halloween sprinkles)

i was trying to get back to you yesterday to show you this recipe, Candy Corn Cheesecake Mousse, but time just slipped away! i found this on Pinterest and had to try it cause it just looked so darn cute. maybe i’ll come back and show you the how-to at some point, cause you could just change up the colors and make it fit for any holiday! (although the candy corn colored layers just seal the deal for me….)

Bella had a little costume parade at school. she wore her Mrs. Potato head costume from last year, cause this year’s costume needs nighttime for the full effect. (that…and i’m a control freak, and didn’t want her real costume to get all wompy before the big night!)
she kept asking me all week if she had to sing songs, or march, or perform on stage. somehow, just walking around in a circle in her costume wasn’t enough in her book to qualify as a real parade.
so…for their real costumes this year, we decided that we wanted to commemorate our current beachfront living situation, and since its no secret that we have an obsession with all things sealife, we came up with this idea:
JELLYFISH (that glow in the dark):
i really really really really really wanted to get a fun pic on the beach, but the wind just wouldn’t cooperate.
in a last minute ditch effort, (since i decided that i was going to forgo the original idea of sporting wetsuits and going along with the jellyfish as surfers…wetsuit + me = not pretty), Jake threw together a costume for himself. he’s SLASH from Guns N Roses….and he looks just like him, (according to google image….cause besides that, i had no clue who SLASH was.)

as tradition has it, we always spend Halloween with our dear friends, who are those kind of friends who are really more like family than friends. here’s the crew (minus one) as best as we could capture them all together!
we took a few more pics:
me: “make a jellyfish face!”
(or…just pout Bella…whatever floats your boat)
we started making our rounds:
and once it got dark, i was able to quickly snap another pic….after many many threats of no more trick or treating unless i can capture how these darn costumes are supposed to glow in the dark.

stopping for a quick check of the loot, (and maybe for just a nibble or two while we’re at it)…
it wasn’t long before my strong willed, non-napped, royal terror but still adorable 4 year old decided she was NOT having the jellyfish costume. most of the night, SLASH could be seen carrying it around the neighborhood…and all momma could keep thinking about was the 1/2 day i wasted making the darn thing.
and then the Boy decided to join suit, and both previous jellyfish looked more like cat burglars in their black outfits and beanies. the jellyfish, on the other hand, floated along behind, as proof that the burglars really did have real costumes.
the treats we ended up with are of the WAY TOO MUCH category, and some will either be seeing the garbage can by the end of the week, or will be handed out to anyone who pops in for a visit!
but in the meantime…they really do make for a great blogging snack :)

that royal terror but still adorable 4 year old is presently napping, and i’m thinking this jellyfish costume maker is due for one too, so i’m signing off.

happy Halloween Hangover Day,

Our weekend via Instagram

Here’s a snapshot of our weekend via my handy dandy IPhone cam

aka: don’t get too excited about the photography in this post :)

(FYI: this post was started in the Blogger App and finished once i got home. in my opinion, the Blogger App is fun…but will prob not be used too much by me to post!)

Jake performed the wedding for this most precious couple who met in our old college ministry at our previous church:

They are the kind of couple that just makes your heart so happy to see be joined as one!!!

the wedding took place as this super hip place in a super hip city:

and since “hip” isn’t the first word i would use to describe myself, i had to call in some troops to help me pack for this wedding. i took these following pics to send to my sis in law. she’s the stylist in the fam, and this FL girl just couldn’t for the life of me figure out what to wear to such a hip wedding…especially when it was supposed to be freezing outside.

i settled on the tank and high waisted skirt with a peacoat and wrap:

but it didn’t much matter, because we danced so hard, that i was wanting to shed all my winter wear as quick as possible! in fact, i kid you not….i actually pulled a muscle in my arm while dancing and went to bed in a fair amount of pain. i’m pretty sure i received my injury during Katy Perry’s “Firework” cause that’s just one of those songs that you can’t help but to bust a serious move as soon as you hear it!

everytime i go to a big, bustling city, i am quickly reminded how much i enjoy visiting, but how i am simply not a big city kind of girl. this was the traffic at midnight last night…MIDNIGHT people!!! when do you ever go to bed, urbanites???!!!

but….there are many plus sides to a big city…such as fun stores that i don’t have at home!

i wanted to buy this frosting mix simply because the box was just so darn cute!

however, i was not in need of frosting mix, so i decided to pass them up this time around. but it was not difficult to find some things that i just couldn’t leave without!!

(whole wheat gnocchi, letter shaped cinnamon cookies, mango butter, trail mix, peanut butter filled pretzels, and some candy cane tea, to name a few!)

and of course i had to hit up IKEA…cause i can’t ever let that opportunity pass me by:
(you’ll be seeing those frames reappear in the near future…i have some fun plans for them!)

i don’t really get to enjoy Starbucks on a regular basis, so this was really a roadtrip treat:

(yummy oatmeal and a green tea latte)

and in the spirit of Halloween tomorrow, here’s another sneak peek at the crazies costumes. i think i stumped y’all with my earlier picture of all my supplies, so this should help out! guesses are welcome!

since i’ve been gone all weekend, i haven’t had a chance yet to try out some fun Halloween treats. i plan on whipping some up tomorrow before all the festivities tomorrow night.

in the meantime, you can check out this link to some posts from last year of some Halloween goodies!

if i have the time, i’ll come back tomorrow and share a new one with you that i think you just might like!
Happy Halloween Eve!
