announcing

hey friends!   i sure do miss being around here.  life is finally beginning to feel a little more normal.  i starting driving again this week and that alone means that i can return to normal activities, such as grocery shopping and errand running.  because my world stopped for the last few months, its funny to enter back in and realize that the rest of the world still very much kept going!  so i feel like i have tons to catch up on, and slowly but surely i’m knocking stuff off the list!   i feel a little bit stronger everyday, and although i’ve got to stay on my oral meds and still have some moments where i just need to sit down, i really am feeling so much better, and i think i can officially say that i think we are through the hard part!  i’m almost halfway, which will feel like such a big accomplishment!

Little Lump is growing by the second, and just over the last few days, i’ve been feeling him/her move around like crazy!  i think Crazy #3 will fit in just perfectly with his/her older siblings!  (in fact, i’m getting a few jabs right now as i type…maybe Little Lump will be a blogger too one day!)

anyway, i was going back through some old photos from December, and came across a few that i don’t think i ever got a chance to share.  were any of you in a sorority?  do you remember “announcing?”  at the University of Florida, which had a huge Greek population, whenever our sorority had an event, date function, new pledge class to introduce, etc, we would dress up (sometimes in costumes to go along with a certain theme) and go around to all the Fraternity houses during dinner time and go “announcing.”  it was a big deal.  you had to announce everything.  in fact, when i got engaged, i came back in secret to my sorority house and “announced” my engagement to my sisters in the from of a surprise ceremony called a “Candlelight.”  (i was 20 years old at the time, so all my friends were still living in the sorority house!)  wow…all that just brought back tons of memories!

it seems like lots of people enjoy finding creative ways to announce news these days, so when i found these pictures of the different ways we announced our pregnancy, i thought it would be fun to share.  don’t get too excited…we didn’t do anything fancy or crazy, but we just wanted to make it a little more special than simply saying the words, “We’re expecting!”  the funnest (i don’t think that’s a real word, but i still like to use it!) thing about this pregnancy was that NO ONE was expecting it!  we totally surprised all our family and friends, as everyone thought we were long done!  so it was a blast to shock people’s socks off, and we tried to capture that the best we could.

so since our kiddos have been asking for a baby for years (its been on every Christmas and Birthday list), we decided to tell them on Christmas morning in the form of a gift:

there’s nothing that unique about the way we told them, but the pictures we captured are priceless!  you probably saw the pics from this post of the t-shirts i made for the kids.  we had wrapped them up in a box:

and hid the baby’s onesie underneath, so they were quite surprised to find an unexpected 3rd shirt in the box:

and once they figured out what it was, they couldn’t contain themselves (hence, the blurry pictures!)  i love the looks of pure joy:

they were so surprised and excited, they could hardly believe it was true:

after our families arrived that morning, we said that the kids had been working on a performance for them.  they came out wearing their t-shirts, holding the onesie, and it took a bit of time before people realized that we really were serious!

we also sent this picture in the form of a text message to a few close friends:

(“Bun in the Oven”)

and this is my all time favorite, and i really hope they don’t kill me for posting this, but its just too good to keep hidden.  we were at our annual Christmas party with some of our closest friends, who we just live life with, ya know?  we were dying to tell them, and knew that they would completely and 100% be shocked.  so we set up the camera with the excuse that we never take pictures of our whole crew together, and just before the timer went off, we yelled out that we were pregnant.  the camera captured the shock perfectly.  we couldn’t have scripted it better:

we tried the same approach with Jake’s family on Christmas night, but NOT ONE SINGLE person believed us, so there was seriously ZERO reaction in the photo.  :)

and speaking of announcements, i’ll be back in the next few days with another one, as we find out the gender of Little Lump on Wednesday.  we can barely contain our excitement, and have been counting down the days!

so its your last chance to tell me what you think…
blue or pink??

and as promised, i’ll be back very soon with a simple tutorial on how to create custom hand painted canvases.  trust me when i tell you that i am NO artist…not even close!  i have just figured out a way to make it look like i am, and i can’t wait to share with you my tips.  here are my two latest projects:

if you want to leave your guesses as to the gender, you can do so in the comments.  i’ll let you know the results on Wednesday!!

PS:  i’m hoping to start up my advertising again next month, and i’ve totally revamped the pricing with cheaper rates to streamline things for me, so if you are interested in advertising on the sidebar of my blog, email me at asmallsnippet@gmail.com, and i’ll give you the details!
