Back :: 2 :: School

our lives changed drastically yesterday, as it was the first day to send both our kiddos off to school, leaving me in a very quiet, empty house!

excitement filled the air all weekend, and the Boy barely slept the night before out of sheer anticipation for the 1st Day of School!

they both woke up before the sun rose, and we shared our special breakfast of Cinnamon Bun Waffles. however, i was told that their bellies were too full of butterflies to eat much.

so after a few bites, we got ready to go:

and practiced slinging our “matching” backpacks over our shoulders.

bella was excited for her first pair of “real” converse to match her brother:

ohhhh…SO grown up!! and yet the missing front tooth just seals the deal that he’s still my little boy!!

and this uniform about does me in in terms of cuteness:

have you ever read this story???

its the sweetest story. in the Bug’s own words, “its ’bout a waccoon who didn’t want to go to school. the mommy kissed chester’s hand wight in the middle of his paw. he was finking’ that mommy wuves him. then he went to school, and he was ‘ppost to put his hand on his cheek and fink about his mommy, that she wuves chester. he was happy to go to school cause he had the kiss in his hand and he weally wuves his mommy.”

the story illustrates the kissed paw with a heart in the middle. so we drew hearts on our hands:

to remind us of each other during the day:

bella said that when she puts her hand to her cheek…

“it ‘minds me that mommy wuves me, daddy wuves me, bubba wuves me, and Jesus wuves me, and that means when i go to school, i’m happy.”

it must’ve worked, cause dropping off the boy was a breeze and quite uneventful! he waltzed right into his new school as if he’d been there all along, not one bit nervous. in fact, he was more excited than i’ve seen him before on prior first days of school! he led the way to his classroom, gave us hugs and a quick wave, and that was that! we left him, feeling a little dazed at how quickly kids become independent.

the bug, too, surprised me when we got to her school.

miraculously (seriously…it was a miracle) she was excited to start her day! i was expecting a full on melt-down, but she only got a little clingy when we began to leave…

until her sweet teacher sat with her to play with some playdough, and she never looked back!

they both had the absolute best days, and talked a mile a minute when i picked them up! bella told me all about “the cwazy boys who talked all durin’ my nap time and kept wakin’ me up!! those stinky boys!” as well as the fun playground that she got to play on “two times!!”

and as soon as my smiling, sweet boy got in the car, before i was even able to get a word in edgewise to ask him about his day, he was bursting, and said, “Bella!!! How was your school??” the convo on the way home in comparing school notes was precious, and i got a glimpse of what life might look like for the next 10 years!

so thankful that God answered very specific prayers for our fam in terms of this next school year.

hoping your days back at school were just as enjoyable. here’s to a Great Year!

ps: have you seen this??

we were getting a little nervous last night, as we were realizing that living right on the beach might just be the worst thing when it comes to a hurricane heading your way. but now it looks like all we might get are some B-I-G waves. kinda hoping for that!!! but praying for the peeps of NC.
