feast…fireworks…fourth

hope you all had an explosively fun 4th of July! this 4th for us was particularly fun! we started the celebrations with an afternoon at the beach with my parents and little bro, and made sure to wear our special 4th of July bathing suits:
Bella and her Pappy spent lots of time jumping the waves:

and we played some pretty competitive games of 2v2 beach football:

after making a mad dash to leave the beach before getting doused by the quickly encroaching rainstorm, we returned home and we rested a bit by making some American flags out of foam pieces:
the bug enjoyed visiting with her Uncle Patrick, who was home from college:
as we put the finishing touches on all the details for our gathering that evening. my mother-in-law made everything look so festive:
we made a feast, which consisted of loads and loads of yummy summer food, like corn on the cob with lime butter, fried okra (i’ll share that recipe someday soon), turkey burgers, and lots of fresh fruit:

jake’s family lives about a hop, skip, and a jump away from the ocean, so their neighborhood on the 4th is ALIVE with activity. it made the day and night feel very festive, as we were right in the thick of the action! Canaan Boy liked waving the flag at all the bike riders passing by:

but poor Bella Bug quickly tired of all the ruckus and fireworks being set off:
so we lit some sparklers, and promised Bella that they didn’t make any noise:
but she didn’t really buy it, and felt safer being inside and watching through the window:
we had some dessert (remember those tart pans?) this is what those pans produced…and they are GOOD! so i’ll definitely show you the how-to later:
before walking down to the beach with some friends to watch the fireworks!
we are still recovering from the late night and excitement of the day!

hope you had a great celebration too!

i dusted off the old sewing machine today to work on a small project this week, so be on the lookout for that coming up soon,
