Homemade Applesauce.
wanna really really really good recipe??!!
i got this recipe from my sweet friend Susan a few weeks ago, (along with a homemade jam recipe that i can’t wait to try!) take my word for it…this applesauce is SO much better than the jarred kind!
i realize that there are many variations to homemade applesauce, but this one is a keeper!
CHUNKY APPLESAUCE
(you only need 5 ingredients):
4 apples (i used my fav…Fugi!)
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
a pinch of kosher salt
(btw…i will double or even triple this recipe the next time i make it. a single recipe went too fast in our house!)
core the apples:
be careful of little ones sneaking bites when you’re not looking!
cut into pieces…you should have about 4 cups for a single recipe:
lemon juice:
and a pinch of kosher salt.
bring to a boil. then reduce heat, cover, and let simmer about 30 minutes, or until tender.
mash the apples with the back of a wooden spoon. keep it as chunky or as smooth as you like. i wanted it a bit smoother, with small chunks, so i actually lightly mashed with a potato masher too. cook 5 more minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
store in fridge in a clean jar or container. i’m not sure how long it lasts…cause we ate our’s pretty quickly!
wishing i had an apple tree in my backyard,
