Hurricane and Tornado Costumes

Here’s a quick recap of our Halloween!

the costumes this year were all the Crazies’ idea.  i can take no credit…i just implemented what they came up with!  they are obsessed with all things weather related, so when they mentioned wanting to be a Tornado and a Hurricane, we thought that was pretty fitting:

(btw:  these costumes were thought up months ago…long before Sandy made her appearance in the Northeast.  these are in no way whatsoever an attempt to make fun of, or be insensitive towards, those affected by that superstorm.)

the Crazies also decided that we should dress up as Storm Chasers to go along with their costumes.

this next picture is a good representation of our life:

and of course, they had to act the part too for a photo:
here’s our traditional Trick or Treating Crew.  we’ve been trick or treating together since birth with these kiddos, and it seems as if we keep adding new members to the group each year.  in fact, another member was born just a day after this photo was taken!
such classic Halloween scenes:
Bella was pretty excited about her loot.
for those of you who are wondering how we stuck to our Clean Eating Plan on Halloween…we didn’t :)

we let the kids go to town that night on their candy, until Bella came to me, mid candy bar, groaning that she had a belly ache.  we let them pick out 10 pieces each to have as treats over the next few weeks, and then we bought (with a small amount of cash) the rest of their candy from them, then turned it all into their school to be sent to the troops overseas.

i’m hoping the kids come up with another brilliant idea for next year, cause i’m plum out of ideas myself.  they have already begun brainstorming.

in case you are interested:

the Hurricane costume is made out of felt.  i found an image of the hurricane symbol online, determined what size i wanted the costume to be, and had it printed to that size at FedEx.  i used that as a pattern, cut out 4 pieces of felt, sewed 2 pieces together for the front, and 2 for the back, attached them together with straps, and stuffed each piece with stuffing.

the Tornado costume was made out of a wire tomato cage, to which i added straps, wrapped it in grey fabric, and then wrapped it in grey crepe paper.  (i searched my town for grey crepe paper, but could never find it, so i ended up ordering it here: Gray Crepe Paper .  at the time that i ordered it, it also came in a roll of 500 ft, so that’s what i ordered.  so i would suggest getting a few rolls to cover the costume, but i definitely had some left over.)

hope y’all had a safe and enjoyable Halloween.

i’m still working on those darn Pinterest pins from my old blogspot.  hoping they get fixed and redirect really soon!  sorry if its caused you frustration.  i’ll keep you updated.
